Are you thinking about golfing near Lake Tahoe? We are just a short and pretty drive from South Lake Tahoe on the Nevada side, about 25 minutes. If you are still wondering where is Carson Valley, let us be your tour guide! Officially, it includes the towns of Gardnerville, Minden, Genoa and Topaz Lake. We are in the town of Gardnerville which is known for its Basque heritage and beautiful outdoors.

Once a well-kept secret, the word is out, Carson Valley is a great place to live and play. Did we mention the beautiful views of the Sierras from the golf course, yes the Sierra Nevada mountains at Lake Tahoe, we get to enjoy their purple mountain majesty every day.

History

Opened in 1965, Carson Valley Golf Course was designed by a local architect, Red Swift. He had a great vision when he developed the golf course and originally it included a dinner restaurant, tennis courts, and a swimming pool. All very nice for 1965! Red Swift was also the original developer of the neighboring area that is known as the Ranchos and is today home for many people living in Gardnerville.

During the early 1970’s, the golf course and restaurant became separate businesses. We are Carson Valley Golf Course and our neighbors own the restaurant. This has caused some confusion over the years as we are different businesses but good neighbors. 

In 2001, the current owners’ Tom & Manya Brooks purchased the golf course from Tom’s parents who had owned the course since 1986. The award-winning golf course continues to rate as ‘the local’s favorite’ and is open to the public for golf year-round. We have been voted  the Best Golf Course in Carson Valley for many years thanks to our amazing staff indoors and outdoors who work year round to provide a great experience to our golfers.
